Race season continues this September, with many to choose from. Mark your calendars and see how you stack up against area runners.

On Sunday, Sept. 3 at 11 a.m., head to the Chicken Wing 5K at Coca Cola Field, 275 Washington Street in Buffalo. More info at

On Saturday, Sept. 9, at 9 a.m., sign up for the Glen Iris 5K, which starts at the Trout Pond by Letchworth State Park’s Glen Iris Inn in Castile, NY. T-shirts are available to first 300 registered, and proceeds benefit the Castile Library. Find more info at

Also on Sept. 9 is the Derby Fair 5K, at the First Church of Evans, 7431 Erie Rd. (Corner of Rte.5 & Sturgeon Pt.) 5K and 1 Mile Fun Walk at 10 am. Custom T-Shirts to first 80 entrants, hot dog and pop to all registered runners. Old fashioned fair with farmer’s market, homemade goods, live music, great eats, activities, bounce house, pet show, basket raffle and more.

On Sunday, Sept. 10, check out 8 In The Rough Trail Run, which starts at Sprague Brook Park’s casino. This 8.7 Mile trail run features challenging terrain, single track and park trails. Amazing door prizes, post race party, camping and lunch round out the event, with proceeds helping support HEART Animal Shelter. Pre-register at Race-day registration is also welcome.

On Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m., take part in the Scrub Run at South Buffalo’s Cazenovia Park Casino. Enjoy the post-race celebration with music, awards, great food and beer tent. This race benefits the Mercy Hospital Foundation. For more info, visit

On Saturday, Sept. 16 at 9 a.m., join the Queen City Architecture Run at Big Ditch Brewing Company, 55 East Huron Street in Buffalo. This 3.5 mile run celebrates the City of Buffalo and its architecture. Proceeds will go to sponsor local architectural events and scholarships, with the after-party and awards at Big Ditch Brewing immediately following the race. For more info, visit

Also on Sept. 16 is The 2017 Mighty Niagara Half Marathon. The course heads alongside the Niagara River, through the historic villages of Lewiston and Youngstown, by the French Castle, the lighthouse and Historic Old Fort Niagara’s compound, Fort Niagara State Park. Running by the beach, you’re enjoying the views of Lake Ontario and the live entertainment at every mile as you continue on to Four Mile State Park, across the finish line at Porter-on-the-Lake Park. Or choose a shorter distance at the Niagara Hospice Dash 5K,  a family friendly event on a fast and relatively flat course that includes an exciting straight away finish line overlooking Lake Ontario. Immediately following the race, enjoy food, drinks, and great live music. For more info, visit

On Sunday, Sept. 17, at 11:30 a.m., the 26th Annual Shea’s 5K Run will take place at Shea’s Performing Arts Center, 646 Main Street in Buffalo. With registration at Theatre Place, next to Shea’s Performing Arts Center, this 5K meanders through downtown and includes a fabulous post-race party for all participants. For more info, visit

For something a little different, sign up for the Blacklight Run  on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Buffalo’s Outer Harbor, 225 Fuhrmann Boulevard in Buffalo. According to the race website, this race challenges competitors to “Wear a white shirt … (and) you will finish covered in Blacklight Run™ UV Liquid Glow, that will glow in our Blacklight Zones™ and at the Blacklight Run After Party™. By the end, you will look like you fell into a Ghost Buster’s movie (minus the slime) and covered with different colored Blacklight Run™ UV Liquid Glow.” For more info, visit
