The Springville-Griffith Institute varsity girls basketball team remained undefeated in league play after a win over JFK, 61-18, on Thursday, Dec. 20.

The girls’ tenacious defense led to a number of steals which shook the JFK attack throughout the evening, coach Bob Gainey noted, led by Kelsey Zabawa “flying all over the floor getting steals and finding teammates in the open court.” Grace Zabawa, meanwhile, “was aggressive at the top of the zone,” forcing JFK into to steals for her teammates.

Meg Rehrauer led the offense this night, contributing a game-high 16 points to go along with her suffocating perimeter defense.

Other scorers on the night included: Kelsey Zabawa (11 points), Kenz Owens (9), Bella Oakley (9), Ivette Lewandowski (8), Grace Zabawa (4) and Rachel O’Neal along with Nyah Solly at two points each.

The girls are now 5-1 overall and an undefeated 4-0 in league play (ECIC Div. IV). The team returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 26, playing host to Middle Early College during the Emerling Holiday Tournament.
