On Monday, the Springville rec softball team, made up of girls ages 13-16, faced off against Hamburg in the championship game.
It was a chippy game with just a few runs in the first innings. Both teams girls’ were playing their hearts out. The rainy conditions made pitching and fielding a little trickier and led to some exciting extra base hits and stolen bases.
Springville led from the 2nd inning on. Lilia Dinse turned in another great four innings of pitching work, followed by Lizzy Arrington who was able to close the door. Again the Springville bats triumphed as every player was able to get on base safely at least once in the game.
The 5th inning saw back to back spectacular diving catches by McKenzie Steff at shortstop and Amy Stabell at 2nd base. The weather also took a quick break and gave the large group of fans a breath-taking double rainbow while Springville was on the field.
The 6th inning saw Springville get two quick outs, then struggled to get that elusive third out. Hamburg was able to get in six runs before Springville finally got the last out. Since Springville was ahead and darkness was creeping in, the umpires called the game on darkness and Springville was victorious 28-18 without coming to bat in the 6th inning. This capped a fantastic season for the girls at 14-0. Here is the roster of the 2018 16U Girls Softball Champions: Lizzy Arrington, Lilia Dinse, Makaila Place, McKenzie Steff, Avery Boyles, Kelsey Folts, Amy Stabell, Samantha Yetter, Autumn Woodruff, Susie Overfield, Sydney Wittmer, Carley Delaney, Gabi Kester, Halley Hayden, and Kennady Keefe.
