A mill and overlay project for Route 240 from Genesee Road to Route 39 highlights local road work scheduled to take place soon in the agenda released last week by the Erie County Department of Public Works.

Also included for mill and overlay work is Savage Road from Route 39 to County Line Road and Zimmerman Road from Route 391 to Shero Road. The DPW has also designated $650,000 in funding for pavement preservation operations and crack sealing throughout the DPW’s Concord District.

“This year’s road damage has inconvenienced many drivers and raised safety concerns throughout our entire community,” said Legislator John Mills. “I am pleased to learn we can expect improvements in the coming months. However, there are many road and infrastructure problems that still need to be addressed. I will continue to push for repairs in all necessary areas for the safety of our residents.”

In the nearby Aurora District, which will also see $650,000 designated for pavement preservation operations and crack sealing through the district, Darien Road from Lewis Road to Boies Road and Holland-Glenwood Road from Phillips Road to Route 240 are scheduled for mill and overlay work, too.

As a cost-saving measure and to maximize efficiency, the road repair program will be conducted by county-employed Highways Division crews rather than contractors, allowing crews to begin working as soon as weather permits and complete these projects in a more timely fashion.

“This initial round of work is just a small part of the approximately $28 million in infrastructure improvements to be conducted this year,” Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz said.  “Unfortunately the long cold winter has taken a toll on area roads. The Department of Public Works will commence this initial round of repairs as soon as the weather permits and the ground has warmed to a temperature suitable for road repair.”
