Bertrand Chaffee Hospital congratulates Kathleen Hebdon, RN for the diabetes care abstract she wrote and will present to the Buffalo Chapter of the American Association of Diabetes Educators on Feb. 17.

As a registered nurse and certified diabetic educator, Hebdon coordinates the monthly support groups and diabetes classes offered to patients and the community through Bertrand Chaffee Hospital.

Hebdon’s presentation, “Infection Prevention in Diabetes Care,” explores recent outbreaks of blood borne disease related to diabetes care and the safety risks related to improper infection control techniques. Attendees will qualify to receive one continuing education unit (CEU) under various professional accrediting organizations. This presentation will also be available in March at BCH for employees and the public.

“I will be sharing information that will help in the care for Type I and Type II diabetics,” said Hebdon. “With the rise in numbers of patients who are presenting with Type II diabetes, it’s important that providers and nurses are aware of how appropriate infection control procedures can protect patients from harm.”

Thank you, Kathy, for sharing your knowledge and nursing experience with your colleagues at facilities around Western New York!
