The 2018 Springville JV Volleyball team finished its season with a record of 17-1 after defeating Mount Mercy in three sets on Monday.

The team’s only league loss of the year was a tough match at Eden, which split two matches with Springville as the Griffins had defeated Eden earlier in the season while playing in Springville.

The team had strong play from seven sophomores that returned from last season.  Marin Lehr was the court captain and did a fantastic job of being a leader on and off of the court.  Meghan Rehrauer and Olivia Schindler were very impressive as middle hitters and they were often relied upon to pick up the aggressiveness on the court. Melanie Barry and Marie Emerling shared time as a right side hitter.  Both ladies played great during the season with each girl making many momentum changing hits throughout the course of the season. Jillian Roggie and Katelyn Mesch both played great during the season, playing a majority of the time in the back row as defensive and passing specialists. They also came through in critical times with many fantastic serves.

Aside from the seven sophomores, the team also had two freshmen and two eighth-grade student-athletes. Kailea Sullivan and Marinna Heichberger were strong additions to the team and both contributed in many ways as setters and as passers in the back row along with two of the hardest serves on the team. Eighth graders Ella Wittman and Sydney Fuller played terrific volleyball this year. Ella played a majority of each game and would usually set the tone by hitting her signature jump serve; she has a very strong all-around game and will be fun to watch as she gets older. Sydney was one of the setters for the team and did a great job.  She was a consistent server and got better each game.
