Officially opening its doors in October of 2016, rSpace, located at 8823 State Road in Colden, offers a full array of yoga and high-intensity cardio classes, fresh-pressed juices, Young Living essential oils, workshops and more. And soon, the fitness studio will offer a new program just for teens.

“Our new teen program is called EMPOWER: Living to Your Full Potential,” explained rSpace owner Jessica Raymond. “This program is designed to teach our youth how to live with vulnerability and bravery, to set realistic and attainable goals, to silence their inner critic and to write their own endings.”

EMPOWER will be a four week program with classes held on Sunday afternoons. Each session will start with an hour of movement that will include a variety of fitness and lifestyle exercises such as Yoga, POUND Fitness, Meditation, Hiking (Weather Permitted) and Kickboxing.

“This will be followed by an hour of learning strategies to help us live our best lives,” Raymond said.

Raymond, who lives in Glenwood with her husband and their three children, noted the idea for the program came from a need she saw within the community. “After spending time talking with parents, teachers and teens themselves, it became apparent that there was a need for a safe place for teens to explore and discuss some of their everyday realities,” she said. “I think sometimes we as adults forget the struggles that our teens face, whether this comes from bullying, body image, or lacking a sense of belonging. Alongside this, obesity rates continue to rise in America as more health conditions plaque our next generation earlier than ever. By bringing these issues forward and teaching mindful, lifestyle techniques we hope to engage and empower our youth for success. We hope to inspire our teens away from fad diets, stereotypes of perfection, and lead a generation that lives wholehearted.” EMPOWER will begin Sunday, Feb. 11 and run Sundays 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. through Sunday, March 4. The spots will be limited so a pre-registration (using the Mind Body app) for the program is required. The cost of the program will be $45 per student and will cover the retreat.

Additionally, rSpace’s first teens-only Glow POUND Party goes down this Saturday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. Teens will have the opportunity to decorate themselves with black light reflective paint and glow sticks before taking part in a blacklight POUND fitness class, which allow students to unleash their inner rock star with a drum based workout. Pre-registration is required.

The new teen program is not the only thing that’s new at rSpace since the Springville Times last caught up with Raymond.

“We have been busy renovating and expanding since we last chatted,” Raymond explained. “We are thrilled to announce we recently added massage therapy room to the Space.” rSpace recently welcomed Katie Merrial, LMT, a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the New York Institute of Massage, who takes a multi-faceted approach to massage therapy. Clients can contact Merrial for an appointment at (716) 263-2205 or

“We also added a locker room for all our students’ needs and members can rent them monthly for only $5,” Raymond said.

A wide variety of other classes, such as aerial and power yoga, are offered regularly at rSpace, which Raymond said can be “modified to any level, you are sure to find the motivation you need to stay curious and push out of your comfort zone.” New workshops are being added throughout February to keep up with demand, and the studio even offers classes just kids.

“Friday nights in Colden have transformed into ladies night as local residents find their inner warrior at BUTI Yoga before hitting up our neighbors, The Colden Country Inn, for a refreshing cocktail!” Raymond said. “Buti Yoga is a tribe of empowered women who support each other in their quest for health and happiness. The movement methodology is drawn from primal movement, tribal dance and ancient yoga techniques to awaken the Shakti energy and free the mind. Utilizing a blend of power yoga, cardio-intensive tribal dance, conditioning and deep toning, this workout tones and sculpts the entire body while facilitating complete inner transformation.” Classes are every Friday at 6 p.m.

Finally, just in time for the Olympic games, the rSpace Olympics are making their way to Colden, Feb. 9-25. Each day will include a new in-studio challenge, and participants will be collecting/earning points; at the end, prizes will be awarded.

It’s a great time of year to get out of the house and get in a new kind of work out. Whether you’re a parent looking for fun new activities for your kids or teens, or looking for a little “me time,” rSpace has something for everyone! For more info, visit
