Evan Elkins and Austin Lux teamed to throw a one-hitter Thursday, April 18, helping the Springville-Griffith Institute varsity baseball team edge Tonawanda on the road.
The Griffins defeated Tonawanda, 1-0. Elkins struck out three and walked one, holding Tonawanda to one hit over the first two innings. Lux pitched five hitless innings, striking out eight and walking two.
Nick Emmick produced the game’s only run with an RBI double in the fourth. Emmick went 2-for-3. Elkins and Nick Pfamer had one hit each for SGI (3-0).
Springville 24, Cleveland Hill 4
Springville jumped on Cleveland Hill early, leading 8-0 after two innings, and never looked back on Wednesday, April 17 at home.
The Griffins had a total of 26 hits, led by Jarrett Wolfs 5-for-5 effort including a double for four runs and an RBI. Austin Lux (double, triple) had four hits while Evan Elkins (doule), Mike Sobota and Sean Barry had three hits each. Nick Emmick and Travis Mansfield had two hits each, both including a double.
The Griffins used three pitchers to put away the Golden Eagles. Collin Rice held Cleve Hill to one run on two hits over four innings, striking out 12 and walking two. Evan Elkins struck out two in a perfect fifth inning, before Sean Barry threw the final two innings, striking out three, walking two and allowing three runs on two hits.
