The Springville varsity girls basketball team traveled to Maryvale Jan. 16 and came away with a 64-44 victory at Cheektowaga.
The SGI girls (8-4) started off red hot by scoring 24 points in the first quarter alone. Mackenzie Owens buried three of her six three-pointers in the first quarter. SGI cooled off a bit in the second quarter but entered halftime up 33-18. After being outscored by six in the third quarter, SGI put the game away with 20 points in the fourth.
Owens led the Way with 27 points and Ivette Lewandowski had 14. Meg Rehrauer scored 11 of her 12 points in the fourth quarter alone to help seal the deal.
“Ivette pulled down rebounds, blocked shots and made plays to help her team win,” coach Bob Gainey said. “Nyah Solly once again proved she is a beast on defense and a handful when attacking the basket.”
With the win, Springville sits alone in second place in ECIC Div. III ahead of a game Friday night at Depew.
