Elle Holland has been the talk of the swim season, with her six pool and school records, and a member of the 400 relay pool record.

If you came to watch her during the dual season, you know what I am talking about.  Her ability to make swimming look so effortless is hypnotizing.  She cruises through the water quickly and smoothly.  She trains year-round with Orchard Park’s senior program called TWST.  She lives and breathes chlorine!

Elle, along with 60+ other girls from Section 6, traveled to Ithaca College this past week to compete in the State meet.  For as far back as I can collect data and recall myself, I believe Elle Holland is the first SGI female swimmer to ever attend the State meet!

She qualified for the state meet in her premier event, 100 freestyle.  She qualified for this event at the Sectional meet with her personal best time (and new school record) of 54.27.  Elle went into the state meet ranked 56th out of 61 in the state, and after swimming she was able to walk away confidently because she moved up to 45th place in the state.

This is an amazing accomplishment for this sophomore girl who has two years left at SGI!

Of her accomplishments, Holland stated, ”When the season first started, I didn’t think there was a chance I’d make States, but everyone else thought I had a good shot at it. During the season, I wasn’t focused on the post-season, but just focused on each meet for the team. The post-season came and I was able to swim the times my coaches knew I was capable of. I surprised myself. There was an amazing outpouring of support from not just my SGI team but everyone at school, in the community and from my TWST team where I swim at the club level. All the support was super encouraging and I’m really thankful for everyone who supported me as I traveled to states for the first time.”

Holland’s teammates, coaches and community are so proud of her and can’t wait to see what the future holds for this talented swimmer! Congratulations Elle!
