No. 1 Maryvale withstands early goal to top Springville, 4-1

Despite scoring a goal in the first two minutes, the Springville-Griffith Institute varsity boys soccer team could not keep up with top-seeded Maryvale on Thursday, Oct 24 in a Section 6 Class B1 quarterfinal.

Zach Hughey gave the Griffins a brief 1-0 lead off a Wyatt Fuller assist, but it would be all Flyers from there, as Maryvale pulled away for a 4-1 victory. Maryvale outshot Springville, 15-6.

SGI goalkeeper Austin Boies was busy, making 10 saves while trying to keep the Griffins in the game. With the loss, Springville finishes the regular season at 10-6-2.

Alex Raczynski had two goals and two assists for Maryvale (15-2-1). AJ Wellenc and Seth Schlosser both scored a goal and Manpreet Singh had an assist. The Flyers also beat City Honors in the semifinals, 2-1, to reach the B1 championship.
