SGI volleyball finishes regular season with sweep of Maryvale

The Springville-Griffith Institute volleyball team finished the regular season with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-11 sweep at Maryvale on Friday, Oct. 18 in Cheektowaga.
Ella Wittman marked six aces, eight assists and four kills in the victory for the Griffins (12-3).
Sara Ehlers had seven kills and four dig assists while Marinna Heichberger had a team-high seven assists.

Springville 3, Lake Shore 0
Springville won on Senior Night for Ivette Lewandowski and Emily Ehlers on Tuesday, Oct. 15, improving to 9-2 in the division.
“The team is in great physical condition, healthy and ready for sectional playoffs at the end of the month,” coach Kristin Hughey said.
Setter Marinna Heichberger led the way with 11 assists. Ella Wittman served well and put down eight kills. Meghan Rehrauer killed four in the middle and blocked for three points. Melanie Barry also played well in middle with three kills and three block points.

JV Volleyball
The Springville JV girls volleyball team finished its season with a 3-0 sweep of Maryvale, 25-10, 25-13, 25-15. MacKenzie Owens had a season-high 12 kills, McKenzie Steff and Alicia Sipes both contributed four kills, and Mia Kendall had three blocks. Lauren Frescella also had a season-high 22 assists. Team serving was lead by Francesca Palmisano with six aces, and five aces by Sam Emerling. Defensive plays by Ayranna Lee and Colleen Keller also contributed to the win.
The SGI JV team won its last home match on Tuesday, Oct. 15, beating Lake Shore 2-1. MacKenzie Owens led the Griffs with six aces and seven kills. Alivia Sipes added three kills and Mia Kendell had four blocks.
