SGI girls soccer (8-4-1) holds on to top Tonawanda, 2-1

SPRINGVILLE — Two first-half goals proved to be enough as the Springville-Griffith Institute varsity girls soccer team held on for a 2-1 victory over Tonawanda on Tuesday.

Jacy Schelble and Erin Schneider both scored in the first 24 minutes for SGI (8-4-1). Griffins goalkeeper Logan Lukert made seven saves to preserve the victory.

Tonawanda’s Baylin Tighe scored 12 minutes into the second half but SGI held on for the win.

LACKAWANNA — Jackie Roggie and Mabel Robinson scored two goals each and both had an assist in SGI’s win on Monday.

Also marking a goal and an assist on Monday were Hannah Goetz, Morgan Kotlarsz, Nyah Solly, Gracie Atteberry-Schrimmel (two assists) and Hannah Carrow. Autumn Snyder had a goal and Lizzy Clark had an assist.

Griffins goalie Logan Lukert made one save for SGI.

Kenmore East 1, OT

TONAWANDA — Jackie Roggie scored in the 66th minute to help Springville salvage a tie from a close game on Friday, Oct. 4. Jacy Schelble had the assist on SGI’s lone goal.

Goalie Logan Lukert had six saves.

Alden 2, Springville 0

ALDEN — Shannon Wypij and Alyssa Attardo (assist) both scored a goal for Alden in the first half and held off the Griffins on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Haley Tyburski also had an assist for Alden.

Logan Lukert made eight saves for SGI.
