Lackawanna scores late to take Homecoming clash with SGI, 13-8

SPRINGVILLE — On Homecoming night for the Springville-Griffith Institute varsity football team, Lackawanna scored a fourth-quarter touchdown and held on to beat the Griffins, 13-8, on Friday, Sept. 20.
David Thompson had the lone touchdown for the Griffins. Thompson recovered a fumble and returned it 52 yards to the end zone in the third quarter. AJ Slippy ran in the two-point conversion to take an 8-7 lead.
For Lackawanna, DeMarion Johnson ran in a first-quarter touchdown from 4 yards out. Jeremi’yha Pressly scored on a 12-yard run in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good for the Steelers.
Thompson and Zack Schime each had a sack for SGI’s defense. Alex Elkins made a team-high 11 tackles and Slippy had eight stops.
