SGI volleyball survives a test from Iroquois

IROQUOIS — The Springville-Griffith Institute varsity volleyball team improved to 2-0 after defeating Iroquois in four sets on Monday.
The SGI girls ran a new rotation in which Jillian Roggie debuted as libero, and she led her team to a 25-21 victory in set one. SGI’s offense got stronger as the match went on, as servicing errors cost it the second set but the Griffins responded by winning the next two.

Ella Wittman was on fire at the net with 6 kills, Melanie Barry controlled the middle with four kills and three blocks.
Sara Ehlers helped SGI run away with strong serves while Rachel Stressinger not only played strong defensive in the back row, but put down nine kills. Ivette Lewandowski chipped in seven kills.
The team was expected to face East Aurora on Wednesday at its home opener.
