SGI girls 4th among ECIC small schools; boys take 8th

The Springville-Griffith Institute varsity girls track and field team finished fourth out of 14 small schools at the ECIC (Erie County Interscholastic Conference) championships on May 25 in Hamburg.
Payton Rowe and Hannah Goetz led the Griffins, both earning first among small schools (and second overall) in an event.
Payton Rowe was first among small school runners in the 400 hurdles (1:05.64), along with fourth overall (third small school) with a personal record in the 100 hurdles (:15.55). Hannah Goetz won the small school 2,000 steeplechase (7:45.95), and took ninth overall (fifth small school) in the 800 (2:24.56, PR). Also in the top five overall, Sonya Krezmien was third (second small school) in the steeplechase (7:49.63) and 17th overall in the 800 (1:07.15, PR).
Evelyn Smith was third (10th overall) in the 200 (:26.82, PR). Chloe Chamberlin took second (seventh overall) in the 100 (:12.87) and fourth (12th overall) in the 200 (:26.87). Alyssa Greaves was fifth (10th overall) in the pentathlon (1,826 points, PR) while Brooke Walker was fourth (10th overall) in the pole vault (8-6) and sixth (23rd overall) in the triple jump (31-4.25).
Allison Emmick took fifth (12th overall) in the high jump (4-8), Jaime Dickinson sixth (14th overall) in the 400 (1:03.33, PR) and Marinna Heichberger fifth (18th overall) in the shot put (29-0.75). Sonya Krezmien was 22nd overall in the 1,500 (5:35.52).
The Griffins’ 1,600 relay (Dickinson, Smith, Goetz, Rowe) timed in at 4:20.70.
The Springville boys, meanwhile, took eighth out of 14 small school teams.
Topher Elkins took second among small schools in the 400 (:51.44), while Jared Hecht was second in the 3,200 (9:49.58) and teammate Brett Russell third (9:49.75). Hecht also took sixth (small school) in the 1,600 (4:43.71). Elkins made the finals of the 200 with a time of :23.62.
SGI had the third-place small school 400 relay (:45.89).
Masin Field made the long jump finals with a leap of 18-feet-11-inches and the triple jump finals (39-3).
Athletes with personal records included: Will Guilmain (100, :12.62), Zach Peterman (800, 2:09.89), Casey Waterman (800, 2:17.49), Andrew Delasandro (400 hurdles, 1:05.97), Mike Evans (3,000 steeplechase, 11:19.96), Zach Scime (discus, 108-3).
Next up for the SGI track athletes is the Section 6 Championship Meet at Williamsville South on Friday and Saturday.
