Dunkirk edges SGI in Section 6 softball semifinals

A three-run fourth inning proved to be the difference for Dunkirk, as the Marauders’ softball team spoiled Springville-Griffith Institute’s bid for the Section 6 Class B-1 finals at North Collins.
Meghan Rehrauer hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to tie things up, but Dunkirk pulled away the following inning on the way to winning 6-2 in the May 28 semifinal. Due to field conditions, the game was moved to the turf field at North Collins.
Lilia Dinse, Kaitlyn Wolf, Rehrauer, Meadow Wittman and Emily Ehlers each managed one hit for the No. 6 seeded Griffins (13-8).
Wolf pitched all seven innings, allowing six runs on 14 hits while striking out eight and walking none.
For No. 7 Dunkirk, Monica Pokoj had an RBI double and pitched a complete game, striking out 16 in a five-hitter.
Emma Newton (3-for-4), Pokioj, Courtney Zatorski and Kymilondjra Nance each had multiple hits for Dunkirk, which is set to play No. 1 Olean in Thursday’s sectional final.

Springville 12, Depew 10
Springville-Griffith Institute stole the lead late in the game, starting with a bases-loaded walk by Emily Ehlers in the top of the seventh after being tied, 7-7.
SGI build the bases-loaded situation into a five-run lead and held on to win in the Section 6 Class B-1 quarterfinal in Depew.
Ella Wittman went 3-for-5 with an RBI single to lead the Springville offense. Meghan Rehrauer and Lilia Dinse also marked multiple hits as the Griffins had 11 total.
Depew’s Kennedy Cotton doubled in the bottom of the seventh, her second RBI hit of the day. Jenna Marranca had a first-inning two-run double.
Pitcher Kaitlyn Wolf struck out six over seven innings, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits.
