SGI baseball tops West Seneca West, Tonawanda to improve to 10-1

It took nine innings, but the Springville-Griffith Institute varsity baseball team outlasted West Seneca West on Thursday, May 9 winning 6-5 at home.
Sean Barry, Evan Elkins (2 doubles, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Austin Lux all had three hits for the Griffins (10-1). Cody Wells went 2-for-4 and Nick Pfamer had a double in the win.
Nick Emmick threw the first five innings for Springville, holding West Seneca West to three hits while striking out five and walking three. WSW struck in the sixth, however, with five runs (three earned) after Elkins took the mound in relief. Barry tossed three scoreless relief innings and Wells got the final two outs.

Springville 6, Tonawanda 4
Springville scores six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to stun Tonawanda on Wednesday, May 8 at home.
Collin Rice had the big hit, a grand slam, to drive in four of the team’s six runs.
Austin Walker (double) and Nick Emmick (RBI) both went 2-for-3 and  Nick Pfamer had an RBI double.
Austin Lux threw a complete game, allowing one earned run on four hits, striking out five and walking three.
