Nominating petitions available for SGI school board election

The Springville-Griffith Institute School District has announced nominating petitions are available for this year’s school board election on Tuesday, May 21.

Eligible district voters will elect two members of the SGI Board of Education to fill the seats of Elizabeth Casey and Allison Duwe. The two candidates receiving the highest vote totals shall each be elected to a full three-year term to commence July 1, 2019 and expire June 30, 2022.

Two qualify as a candidate, one must be a qualified voter and district resident for one year immediately prior to April 22.

Candidates cannot be an employee of the Board of Education to which membership is sought, must be the only member of your family in the same household on the board, not hold another incompatible public office and have not been removed from a school district office within one year preceding the date of appointment or election to the board.

By 5 p.m. April 22, each candidate must also file with the district clerk a nominating petition containing the signature and legal address of no fewer than 25 signatures from eligible voters of the district.

A qualified voter must be a United States citizen, at least 18 years old and a district resident for 30 days immediately to the date of the election, with their current address either correctly filed at the County Board of Elections or properly registered at the district’s registration to be held on April 22.

The annual school board election will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the CC Fire Hall, Colden Elementary School and the high school main lobby.
