East Aurora Veterans Memorial to feature on American Chopper episode

An episode of “American Chopper” featuring the East Aurora Veterans Memorial Wall aired March 12 on Discovery Channel in an episode titled “Guitar Hero.”

New York State Assemblyman David DiPietro, R-East Aurora, who helped organize the memorial wall and the TV show’s involvement in the effort, also appeared on the program.

The popular national television show featured two custom bikes built by the famed Orange County Choppers — one built to help raise money to construct the East Aurora Veterans Memorial Wall and a second bike built for Buffalo-area hot dog legend Sahlen Packing Co.

Both will be displayed around Western New York, with the Sahlen bike being featured at the newly renamed Sahlen Field, the downtown Buffalo home of the Buffalo Bisons baseball team.

In December 2018, Sahlen agreed to donate the cost for design and construction of a custom chopper to help raise money to build the memorial. The bike build and filming of the “American Chopper” episode began in early December. The bike was completed in February and will be unveiled in East Aurora in the spring.

The idea for installing a permanent veterans’ wall in Knox Farm State Park came from area veterans and the American Legion Post 362 in East Aurora. The pair recently agreed to purchase the wall from American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT), which brought the veterans tribute to Knox Farm State Park in 2009.

In a remarkable commitment to America’s veterans, Sahlen Packing Co. donated the cost of the custom motorcycle to assure the project is successful and the permanent veterans wall is certain to be installed in Knox Farm State Park.

Sahlen also had a custom motorcycle built to commemorate the company’s 150th Anniversary. The episode featuring that build will air March 19.
