Two Springville seniors are headed to the state indoor track championships after sectional competition on Thursday night, Feb. 21 at Houghton.
Springville’s Payton Rowe qualified for states with a time of 8.76, second overall in Section 6, in the 55-meter hurdles. Meanwhile, Topher Elkins made it to states with a fourth-place finish in the boys’ 300-meter run (36.94 seconds), after running to first in the preliminaries.
The SGI girls’ 1,600-meter relay team (4×400) of Hannah Goetz, Jaime Dickinson, Evelyn Smith and Payton Rowe shaved seven seconds off of the school record, running to fourth in the prelims at 4:18.54.
Meanwhile, Smith was 10th in the 300 (46.12) and Goetz was 13th in the 1,000 (3:34.37). The 800 relay team (Smith, Dickinson, Sydney Wittmer, Emily Schlemmer) was 15th in prelims at 2:04.75.
For the Springville boys, Jared Hecht was 10th in the 1,600 (4:57.48) and Brett Russell 12th in the 3,200 (10:34.33).
Mason Field was 11th in the triple jump (38-feet-3-inches) and 16th in the long jump (18-1.5).
Andrew Delasandro was 29th (9.32) in the 55 hurdles prelims.
