Griffin boys make 2nd-half charge, but fall in Section 6 playoffs

The season and an inspired second-half run came to an end for the Springville-Griffith Institute varsity boys basketball team on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Buffalo.

The Griffins, seeded fifth in the Section 6 Class B-1 playoffs, fell to No. 4 City Honors 61-47 in a quarterfinal matchup Saturday afternoon. With its eight-game winning streak snapped, Springville fell to 13-9 to close the season.

Senior Mason Goodridge scored 22 points in what would be his final game with the Griffins. Classmates Adam Pruitt (nine points) and Alex Francisco chipped in with five and eight rebounds, respectively.

For City Honors (18-3), which advanced to Tuesday night’s semifinals, Kevion Taylor had 22 points and four rebounds. Jaden Slaughter added 16 points and 12 rebounds.

 

SECTION 6 CLASS B-1

FIRST ROUND

Springville 55, CSAT 53

Austin Boies led the way with 18 points and five rebounds, leading Springville to a first-round boys basketball victory at home in the Section 6 Class B-1 playoffs on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Also for the Griffins, Mason Goodridge scored 14 points with four assists. Adam Pruitt had 13 points, three assists and four boards, while Alex Francisco had 10 points and eight boards.
