Holiday cheer for all to hear at Christmas concerts

As with the lights and decorations, plenty of snow and jolly men in red suits, December brings with it a specific genre of music often only heard during this month.

Regardless of your taste in music, whether it be traditional, jazzy, country or rock, there’s a holiday concert playing some of the most popular and beloved songs of the season near you.

In addition to the large concert halls with professional orchestras, there’s plenty of musical merriment in Springville, too.

These upcoming shows will have you tapping your toes and in the mood to sing along to all your favorites from “Silent Night” to “Jingle Bell Rock” and beyond.

Dec. 7, 10 a.m. & Dec. 8, 8 p.m., Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Classical Christmas

Kleinhans Music Hall 3 Symphony Circle, Buffalo

Join JoAnn Falletta and the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus as they celebrate the season with centuries of classical treasures! Come at 9 a.m. on Dec. 7 for complimentary coffee and doughnuts.

Dec. 8, 1 p.m., Holiday Music Under the Dome
M&T Bank 1 Fountain Plaza, Buffalo

Todd Craven conducts this traditional free concert in one of the prettiest banks in Buffalo: the historic Beaux Arts gold-domed M&T Bank.

Dec. 8, 8 p.m., Frankie Scinta’s Holiday Show

UB Center for the Arts, 103 Center for Tomorrow, Buffalo

The Christmas show takes the audience on a memorable holiday journey with a look back of some of the great iconic artists that we all remember. Through impressions and songs audience will be launched into the true Holiday spirit from the very first notes of this show until the last.

Dec. 9, 2:30 p.m., Jingle Bell Jam

Kleinhans Music Hall 3 Symphony Circle, Buffalo

Sing along with the orchestra, enjoy cookies and milk with Santa and get in the holiday spirit with your whole family. The BPO will once again be a Toys for Tots drop-off location. Come at 1:30 to make cards for people in the military stationed far from home and get your photo taken with dancers from Neglia Ballet Artists’ “The Nutcracker.”

Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall, 1300 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo

St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute is proud to feature the String Ensemble, Jazz Band, Concert Band, Swing Choir, Varsity Singers, Glee Club and Freshman Singers. Join us for an evening to celebrate the birth of Christ through music and song.

This year, JMR is pulling out all the holiday favorites from his Christmas bag. Mr. Christmas will bring together a magical program featuring the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus to put you in the holiday spirit.

Buffalo theater legend Vincent O’Neill narrates a thrilling version of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Vocal powerhouse Adia Dobbins will bring the house down with gospel-infused holiday favorites.

The holiday tradition of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve” includes holiday fan-favorites alongside awe-inspiring special effects and staging.
