Last weekend, SGI’s girls and boys cross country teams competed at the West Seneca West Invitational held at Sunshine Park.
The girls team placed second out of 15 teams in the small school division. Sonya Krezmein led the team, placing 3rd overall, with Hannah Goetz finishing 4th. Jaime Dickenson, Erin Drewiga and Evelyn Smith ran in a tight pack to help the team take home the second place honors.
The girls’ performances this weekend has placed the team on the Buffalo News Cross Country Coaching Poll in the Top 10 Small school programs. The girls team is ranked 4th on the poll.
The guys team also finished 2nd overall in a very close race against 15 teams. Springville and Batavia (a section 5 team and from a larger sized school) were tied in scoring after both teams first five runners. In the event of a tie, the winning team is named based of the finishing place of the 6th runner. Unfortunately, on this day Springville took second place.
Brett Russell took 3rd place overall with Zack Peterman, Jared Hecht and Mikey Evans all finishing in the top 10. Nate Myers and Elliot Emley ran very well in the race.
The guys team remains in first place on the Buffalo news coaching poll.
