AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program Looking for Volunteers

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is looking to expand its team of volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Tax-Aide offers free tax filing help to anyone, especially those 50 and older, who can’t afford a tax preparation service. Tax-Aide volunteers have made a difference for 51 years in their communities by assisting many older, lower-income taxpayers who might otherwise miss out on the credits and deductions they’ve earned.

Tax-Aide volunteers receive training and support in a welcoming environment. There is need for volunteer tax preparers or anyone willing to give of their time to assist taxpayers. Volunteers complete tax preparation training and IRS certification. If you have previous experience preparing taxes, can work with a computer or just like to interact with people, we have a spot for you on our team!

This past year, 21 local volunteers helped over 1,000 people file their federal and state tax returns at three sites in the Southtowns and South Buffalo. Those taxpayers received over $774,000 in Federal refunds and over $122,000 in refunds from New York State. All returns prepared were accepted by the IRS and NYS. Taxpayers do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this program.
