The Springville JV girls volleyball team has started the season by going 5-0 in their matches, winning 3-0 against John F. Kennedy, Tonawanda, Holland and Mount Mercy. Springville beat a tough Eden team 2-1.
The team returns seven sophomores that include Meghan Rehrauer, Melanie Barry, Olivia Schindler, Marin Lehr, Jillian Roggie, Marie Emerling and Katelyn Mesch. Freshman Kailea Sullivan and Marinna Heichberger, along with 8th graders Ella Wittman and Sydney Fuller, round out the squad.
The girls played in a 16 team tournament in Gowanda last weekend and had a top 4 finish. Springville went 5-1 in pool play and claimed the top seed as they headed into the play-off rounds.
They won two games against Cattaraugus-Little Valley and Jamestown, while splitting a two game match with Chautauqua Lake.
Springville won the first play-off round against Cassadaga Valley. They went on to face division rival Eden in the semi-final round and lost a tough match. Jillian Roggie and Kailea Sullivan had a great day serving. Meghan Rehrauer and Olivia Schindler were strong on the net with numerous blocks and kills.
The girls will look to continue their strong play this week with games against Cleveland Hill and Alden.
