As September continues to produce warm temps, it’s a great time for fall sports. At SGI, one of the sports offered this time of year is golf.
“This year’s golf team consists of 16 players,” said golf coach and SES teacher Frank Noeson. “There are five seniors, one junior, four sophomores, three freshmen, two eighth graders and one seventh grader.”
The team returns five players from last year. Noeson noted that while this year’s team consists of all males, is also open to females.
Noeson, who moved to coaching golf after having coached the SGI girls’ tennis team in recent years, said the off-season consisted of recruiting more players, encouraging them to play as much golf as possible, and working with Springville Country Club to ensure student athletes continue to have the opportunity to practice and compete there.”
Noeson anticipates that the top competition for the season will be East Aurora, who has won the Small School South Division several years in a row.
“Having an even mix of veteran upperclassmen and younger players with great potential has strengthened our team as a whole,” he said. “Each golfer is looking for personal improvement through both fundamentals and mechanics, and course management. We are looking to not only improve personal scores, but to achieve a level of consistency.”
