SGI’s cross country team had a busy summer getting ready for the fall season. The group met three days a week throughout the summer, and also spent several days together at Camp Allegany in late August.
“We did a week x-c camp with three other schools at Allegany State Park and ran 45-55 miles over six days,” said coach Chad Russell. The camp workout included runs twice a day with ice baths as part of the recovery.
Russell noted that this year’s boys’ team is large in numbers with a lot of talent, which he described as “11-13 deep in solid runners.”
He added that wrestler Jared Hecht “was a nice surprise to the team this year.”
Russell feels the team has a good chance at winning the division and if things go well, a chance of being one of the top teams at sectionals and maybe even a chance at making states.
On the girls’ side, junior Sonya Krezmien returns, who was 10th in the state two years ago.
“The girls also look to be strong in the division with a great chance as well at winning the division,” Russell said.
