September Race Rundown

Race season continues as we head into the final weeks of summer and early weeks of fall, and there’s something for everyone.

On Sept. 8, head to Letchworth State Park for the annual Glen Iris 5K. The start is located at the Trout Pond of Letchworth Park, and t-shirts go to the first 300 registered. The race benefits the Castile Library.

The following day, get up early for the Four for Forty Four & Cross Country Beer Mile with a 7 a.m. start. The Southern Tier Brewery relay includes four people and 44 miles, who run through lakeside village, parks, including Lucille Ball’s hometown while encircling Chautauqua Lake. The In the Cross Country Beer Mile, participants must drink four beers, one every quarter mile.

That same day, Sprague Brook Park will host the 8 In The Rough Trail Run and 4 In The Rough Trail Run. Run on challenging terrain, single track and park trails. With amazing door prizes, a post race party, camping and lunch, this race helps support HEART Animal Shelter.

On Saturday, Sept. 15, head to the Kevin Guest Fall Fest 5K. Race to Beat the Train as the NFTA train makes its way down Main Street. This fast, flat course takes runners through beautiful downtown Buffalo, with the  finish line back at Kevin Guest House. A post-race party with live music, beer, wine and great food from Dash’s, plus a 1/2 mile Kids Dash with bounce house and games round out the event.

On Sept .16, the Shea’s 27th Annual Bill Crooker Memorial 5K Run & Mona Arida Fun Walk 5K happens in downtown Buffalo. This 5K run and walk through downtown includes a fabulous post-race party for all participants, prizes and drawings.

Saturday, Sept. 22, head to Allegany State Park’s Bova Ski Hill (Red House Area) for the KMR Night Ops Road March in honor of all the brave men and women from NY State who have made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation. Road marchers will be required to carry toys in their backpacks that will be donated to the Gold Star mothers for distribution to children of veterans! No flashlights will be allowed except for emergency use if needed. official KMR Night Ops event t-shirt plus finish line gift.

On Saturday, Sept. 29, the Amish Country Running Festival will include a Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, 1 Mile. The festival will be held at Cemetery Hill Rd. and Church St. in Randolph, and is the only running event that travels through the largest Old Order Amish Community in the United States! The wonderful music of “Old Dawg Bluegrass Band” will welcome you as you come across the finish line, food, fun and more makes this a great event for all ages and families too.

End the month on Sunday, Sept. 30 with the Muddy Buffalo Trail Races- 5 Mile, 10 Mile runs at Three Valley Campground in Holland.  This is the same day as the Buffalo Bills vs. Green Bay Packers game and all are invited to hang in the Long House bar after the race for food, beverage and football.
