Race Rundown: Amazing Races This August

It’s August, the height of summer and the height of race season. With so many great upcoming runs to take part in this month, make your plans, get registered, and get ready to cross that finish line!

On Saturday, Aug. 4, the Christine Padasak Memorial Autism Awareness 5K & Fun Walk 5K returns to Springville. This race will begin at The Children’s League parking lot, 393 North St., Springville. Tech T-shirts are available for first 150 participants. A huge post race pancake breakfast, bounce house and children’s play area round out the event. Awards in five-year age groups 9-and-under through 80-plus. Awards for first place male/female overall and first place masters male/female. For info, visit tcl5k.everydayhero.do.

Also on Saturday, Aug. 4, sign up for the Old First Night Run/Walk at the Chautauqua Institution, One Ames Ave. in Chautauqua. The historic and scenic course is held around the perimeter of beautiful Chautauqua Institution. Registration includes a magnificent T-shirt, age group awards (10-year brackets). The following day, on Sunday, Aug. 5, the Run716 takes place at Flying Bison Brewing Headquarters, Larkinville, 840 Seneca St., Buffalo. Exciting new 15K individual and three-person team relay in the heart of Buffalo’s new and developing Larkinville district! The event starts and ends with live music and a post event party at host sponsor, Flying Bison Brewery. Pre-race events on Saturday will provide plenty to do prior to this run through historic Buffalo. The post race party will be one of the best! For info, visit run716.com.

On Monday, Aug. 6, check out the Mud Run – European Style X-Country Run 6.5K at the Erie County Reforestation Refuge, S. Feddick Road in Boston. And there’s Charlap’s Ice Cream post race! Bring water and change of clothes — there will be mud!

On Saturday, Aug. 11, the Erie County Fair 5K takes place at Gate 6, Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg on McKinley Parkway near Clark Street. Registration includes preferred parking, two adult admission passes to Erie County Fair and limited edition T-shirt while supplies last. Post race party; five-year age groups through 70-plus. That same day, head to East Aurora for the Cross Country Crusade at Knox Farm State Park, 437 Buffalo Road in East Aurora. This is a fun, nonprofit 5K race on the well-maintained scenic trails at Knox State Park, and 100 percent of proceeds are donated to Camp Good Days, a local charity that helps kids with cancer and their families. T-shirts while supplies last. Pizza and refreshments to all. Prizes for top runners (male/female); all runners entered in raffle for gift certificates and baskets from local businesses. On Saturday, Aug. 18, check out the Muddy Buffalo Obstacle Course Run at Buffalo Ski Club, 7414 State Rd Rt 240 in Colden. This is a fun and challenging 5-mile obstacle course race in the hills of Buffalo Ski Club. Register at www.runsignup.com/Race/NY/Colden/MUDDYBUFFALO
