Hit the golf course for glory and a great cause this summer! Throughout Cattaraugus and Erie counties, golf courses will be hosting a variety of tournaments that you can take part in. Embrace your competitive side and raise money for local scholarship awards, the EVL Memorial Library and more.
On Wednesday, July 11, Holiday Valley is hosting the Eddie Szpaicher Golf Tournament, which provides scholarships to two graduating ECS seniors every year. The tournament begins on Tuesday, July 10 with evening registration and a kick-off party at 6 p.m. at the Cabana Bar. The tournament begins on Wednesday at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start, followed by lunch at the turn at 1 p.m. and various beer stations throughout the course. Participants can also opt for the 1 p.m. shotgun start after lunch. Enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the Cabana Bar at 6 p.m., which will be followed by dinner and awards at 7 p.m. Your $125 registration includes all activities on Tuesday and Wednesday. The 5th Annual Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce Corporate Golf Classic will be held on Monday, July 16 at the Bartlett Country Club in Olean. This classic is a scramble (limited to 30 teams) and includes corporate teams and community teams vying for prizes from the pro shop and a traveling trophy to show off throughout the year! Char Dwaileebe, GOACC Administrative Associate, said, “Last year, the classic had 26 teams—we are hoping to fill the course with 30 teams. Back again this year: Every team member’s drive has to be used at least twice, a putting contest before tee off at hole #17 will be held, no mulligans and a 2-putt rule.”

Get ready for “Beads and Bling, It’s a Mardi Gras Thing,” the Ladies Open Golf Tournament at the Springville Country Club on Thursday, Aug. 2. This tournament is a 4-person team better ball format with teams made up of club members, members with guests and non-members. The registration fee is $75 per golfer and includes a cart, breakfast, lunch, snacks, prizes and more including beads and masks for everyone!
The tournament begins at 8 a.m. with registration and breakfast, followed by a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Appetizers and lunch are served at 1:30 p.m. and include many tasty goodies such as muffuletta skewers, veggie and cheese/cracker platters, and gumbo and mini blackened crab cakes with arugula salad for lunch. In true Mardi Gras fashion, king cake will be served for dessert!

Save the date for Monday, Aug. 6 for the 16th Annual Ellicottville Library Pro Am Golf Tournament, hosted by Holiday Valley. This tournament includes 30 WNY PGA Professionals and 90 amateurs, and proceeds support the library, which relies on area donations to support the demand for new books, computers and programming. The 5th Annual Mount Mercy Academy Golf Tournament takes place on Monday, Aug. 20 at Springville Country Club. This annual tournament benefits the athletic department of Mount Mercy, a private, all-girls Roman Catholic school in Buffalo. In addition to other prizes, golfers have a chance to win a 2018 Lincoln MKC in the Hole-in-One Contest, sponsored by Towne Auto.
Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and is followed by lunch at 11 a.m. A shotgun start at 12 p.m. begins this scramble-format tournament, which concludes at 4:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour. At 5:30 p.m., a steak dinner will be served and awards will be presented. The $125 registration fee includes the greens fee, complimentary gift bags, lunch, cocktails and dinner.
