The 20th annual Hollywood Happening to benefit Gowanda’s Historic Hollywood Theater will be held June 1-3 in Gowanda.
Proceeds for the weekend will go to the fund for the restoration of the Hollywood Theater, which is entering its final stages.
Built in 1926 by industrialist Richard Wilhelm, the theater replaced a similar one that was destroyed by fire in 1924. It remained open to the public until 1992 when the theater closed its doors.
A few years later, a grassroots group formed with the intention of restoring the historic theater. The Gowanda Area Redevelopment Corp (GARC), has been guiding the volunteer-driven fund-raising and restoration efforts.
