Boys’ Track Looks to Leverage Their Speed

The boys’ track team is led by the familiar coaching staff of by Joseph Marvin and Chad Russell, who also team up to coach cross country in the fall, and indoor track in the winter. The team consists of 40 boys, ranging in grades 7-12.

Marvin lists returning point scorers as Nick Abdo, Topher Elkins, Jarod Reese and Seth Dash in sprints; Andrew Delasandro and Nolan Longbine in hurdles, Brett Russell and Zach Peterman in distance, and Ethan Keyser and Andrew Lazarus in throwing.

Marvin said that early spring training is an extension of indoor track training, and includes weights, plyos and sprints in the hallways.

According to Marvin, team goals for the season include breaking as many school records as possible, qualifying several athletes for sectionals and improving individual times and distances.

The team is scheduled to compete against East Aurora on Wednesday, April 11 at 4:30 at home. Stayed tuned to the Springville Times for the weekly sports schedule.
