On Thursday, Feb. 16, the Springville Boys Swim Team traveled to UB Alumni Arena to compete with all qualifying teams from Section 6 in their swimming events. The medley relay team, comprised of Zach Hughey, Wyatt Fuller, Jon Boberg, and Elliot Emley, was able to take 29th out of 36th place. (Fuller made a rare appearance on the “A” relay as Blaze Schelble, the usual breaststroke leg, was out of town.)
In the 200 Freestyle Relay, the foursome of Hughey, Dominic Hartenstein, Emley, and Boberg were able to come in 23rd on the night, swimming not their season best but given the tough schedule, battling illnesses, something to be proud of nonetheless.
The last swimming event of the season saw Hughey swim in the 100 Backstroke for the Griffins as the lone individual swimmer to have qualified this year.
On Friday, the diving competition was held and all three divers, Dakota Schelble, Jackson Richert, and Fuller, qualified. However, only Richert and Fuller were able to compete as D. Schelble was out of town.
Richert had a great meet through the first nine dives and went for his two hardest dives in the last rounds which impeded his score of 287.05. Overall, it was just short of his best career 11-dive performance.
Fuller also didn’t have his own personal best score, but was able to perform well enough to place second overall, behind Lockport’s Jake Minnick.
The final competition of the season will be the State competition as Fuller competes in the diving event.
