It’s February—the month of love. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, many guys (and gals too!) are getting ready to pop the question, or even getting ready for their big day in the upcoming months. If you are looking to say yes to the dress this year, where do you even begin?
According to www.weddingwire.com, New York Bridal Fashion week presented the latest trends in wedding dresses, which include those that are celestial-inspired (think star appliques and holographic details), edgy jackets (think studded for a rocker chic vibe), puffy sleeves, sporty and short.
The site also noted that botanical elements are in: “On the Spring 2018 bridal runways, embellishments in vine patterns popped up everywhere thanks to the latest wedding obsession with greenery. For Fall 2018 wedding dress trends, botany was still the major inspiration for many designers, but was used in eye-catching ways. Plants, not just florals, were seen in opulent embroidery lace, appliques and more. The designs created an ethereal look with earthy elements appearing to grow off the dresses. From three-dimensional appliques on sleeves to bright floral embellishments trickling down bodices, these botanical wedding dress trends took our breath away.”
Brides can also channel days gone by when picking up on the ultra-feminine petticoat skirt trend for gowns and Boho-inspired looks that feature crochet-lace or feathered backs (think Stevie Nicks).
When it comes to the sometimes-controversial bridesmaid dress (of course they’ll be able to wear it again!), finding something that can be flattering for everyone in the wedding party can be a challenge, but one any bride should be willing to accept. (These are your besties after all, and you don’t want their biggest memory of your wedding to be the drop-waisted, sparkly, canary yellow number with dyed-to-match shoes you made them wear!)
According to theknot.com, halter necklines are in. “Whether you want a dress to help create the illusion of curves, or flaunt the curves you have, a halter-neck bridesmaid dress is a universally flattering style your girls will love,” the site says.
Other flattering trends include flowy tiers, high slits, lace details, and one shoulder styles that boast a “versatile silhouette works for every wedding style and dress code.” Also of note, the site lists open backs, glamorous fit-and-flare skirts and whimsical gauzy overlays as a few ways to give your bridal party a fresh take.
Attending a bridal show is also a great way to see what’s out there, often times featuring numerous wedding-related vendors and a fashion show.
