RED HOUSE — The Environmental Education and Recreation Department at Allegany State Park will host an evening hike along the Red House Bike Path on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
The hike, in which participants will search for some early signs of spring, will begin in the parking lot of the Red House Chapel and continue on the bike path and a section of the new Hemlock Hollow trail.
Hikers will learn about various aspects of hibernation and park officials said it’s possible they may encounter an Allegany groundhog predicting the weather for the next six weeks.
Participants should come dressed for the weather, bring a flashlight or headlamp, water, snack and a sense of adventure.
