Owners Stacie and Joe Decker took over Carpet World in 1993.

There is one thing that playing in a living room, walking through an office building and dancing around the kitchen have in common –flooring. You may forget about flooring throughout the day, but it is one of the basic structures in every room, and it follows the trends of society. Not many can forget shag carpeting, carpeted bathrooms or vinyl— lots and lots of vinyl. Carpet World, located at 67 East Main Street in Springville, has been flooring the homes of Erie County citizens for over 20 years.
Joe and Stacie Decker took over the business from Witter Davis in 1993 and moved to Springville. While Stacie is a Springville native, Joe is from New Jersey, where his father owned a flooring business.
“I’ve been doing this since I was 13 years old, it’s all I’ve ever done –flooring,” Joe said.
It is this heritage that makes Joe and Stacie so committed to their business. From start to finish, they said every project and every customer is important. They offer a range of products, such as carpet, wood and ceramic, and services such as free estimates, cash and carry, or full-service installation.
If a customer has never floored a room, or simply has questions concerning size and material, Joe and Stacie said they are always willing to work through the process. For each project, the Deckers help patrons peruse the sample materials and choose their best fit. Then, the area or room is inspected to make sure the chosen product will work, and if the customer wants to proceed, Carpet World will order and install the flooring.
“We want them to be happy when they’re done with their choice and with us, and I don’t think you can get that everywhere,” Stacie said.
As a small business, Carpet World has to compete with big box stores, which Joe and Stacie admit is difficult, but they believe their commitment to their customers and to the flooring business is more important. Even their website, which says “Where Service is Everything” reflects this attitude.
Carpet World is a member of the Springville Chamber of Commerce, and uses their position as business owners to help many local charities and organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, the Trading Post and Relay for Life.
Their long history in the flooring business has allowed the Deckers to meet many interesting people. One woman, who was moving into an old farmhouse, came into the store with unique ideas for every room in the new house. They said the home she was leaving in Orchard Park looked like a castle and had even appeared in interior design magazines.
“She was fun to work with— she was a sweet woman, had a bunch of kids and it was just a lot of fun putting everything together for her,” Stacie said.
Working in a small town has allowed their biggest form of advertisement to be word-of-mouth. Stacie mentioned that customers will frequently say who they were referred by, or in who’s house they’d admired the flooring. The Deckers said this is one advantage of their service centered mission.
“When you are small town, you’ve got to really show them that they can trust you, and that you do what you say you’re going to do,” said Joe.
