Patricia Eckstrom’s solo exhibit, Under the Surface, opened on Saturday, September 9 at Springville Center for the Arts. A trained printmaker inspired by the intricate patterns outside her door, creates multi-media pieces that reflect the feeling that exists “under the surface of everyday life.” The exhibit displays layered pieces of trees, fish and leaves, constructed primarily of paper.
Two Under the Surface events will occur at the Arts Center on Saturday, Sept. 23. Pat Eckstrom will lead a workshop where participants will create their own multi-media leaf piece. After collecting leaves outside, the class will follow Eckstrom’s process to manipulate paper with color, shape, and texture into similar leaves, using traditional art supplies to achieve very nontraditional results. This workshop will take place in the Vacanti Classroom at Springville Center for the Arts from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Registration by calling (716) 592-9038 is $25 or $22 if you are an Arts Center member.
Later that Saturday, the Center will host a free artist’s reception from 6:30-8:30 in the Olmsted Gallery. Refreshments will be served and you will have the opportunity to look at Eckstrom’s work and speak to the artist about her process. Her work is very reasonably priced with pieces ranging from three feet wide to smaller gift-sized pieces.
If you have any questions or would like more information about the exhibit, workshop, or reception, please call the Arts Center at (716) 592-9038 or visit SpringvilleArts.org. Gallery hours are Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 5 p.m., Thursdays from noon to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
