22        Fri  7-8:30pm  Autumnal Equinox Celebration Hike – Celebrate the turning of the season with Naturalist Mark Carra at Beaver Meadow. What is the origin of the equinox and what is the equilux? We’ll walk and talk about subjects like the tradition of the changing seasons to the rich folklore surrounding it. Pre-registration is required. $5.

23        Sat  10am-5pm  13th Annual WNY Fiber Arts Festival at the Emery Park Ski Lodge – Join us at the Buffalo Audubon table. For more info about this event, visit http://wnyfiberartsfestival.org

23        Sat  1:30-3:30pm  Beginner Birding at Beaver Meadow – Join Naturalist Tom Kerr for an indoor presentation and a beginner birding walk. We’ll go over everything you need to know to get started with this great hobby, including binoculars, field guides, and apps for your smart phone. Binoculars are available. Pre-registration is required. $5.

24        Sun  2pm  Family Walk at Beaver Meadow – Guided walk led by one of our naturalists through the preserve. Donations gratefully accepted.

26        Tues  10-11am  Toddler Time – Nature Instruments – Bring your little one(s) to Beaver Meadow to make some fun instruments from natural and recycled materials. Once we’ve assembled our instruments, we’ll hold a parade through the field and play them! Pre-registration is required. $3.

30        Sat 9-11am  Birding the Beaver Pond – Join Naturalist Tom Kerr for a birding hike around the pond at Beaver Meadow. Ducks and Geese are starting to head south for the winter, and Beaver Meadow is an important migratory stopover site for many of these birds. Binoculars are available. Pre-registration is required. $5.

30        Sat  1-3pm  Wild Edibles – How to Bake Elderberry Scones – Naturalist Mark Carra will harvest wild elderberries at Beaver Meadow to make delectable scones. Participants will learn how to make the scones and everyone will indulge in treats with coffee and tea. If the harvest is good we’ll make some Spiced Elderberries as well. Pre-registration required. Ages 13+. $7.
