The Springville Griffith Institute Girl’s Track and Field team has been competing this summer in a number of meets. Corrin Sacilowski, Sonya Krezmien, Payton Rowe, and Marinna Heichberger competed in the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics this past month.
At the association meet held in Penfield, NY, all four girls qualified to advance to the Region 2 Championship, held in Brockport.
Krezmien finished in 1st place in the 3000 meter run, while Sacilowski finished in 2nd place in the 3000 meter race-walk. Rowe finished in 2nd place in the 400 meter hurdles and in 4th place in the 100 meter hurdles. Heichberger finished in 9th place in the discus and in 12th place in the shotput.
The top five finishers in each event qualified to compete at the USATF Hershey National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships held at the University of Kansas.
Sacilowski and Krezmien made the 15-hour drive to compete in the National Finals. Sacilowski was able to race to a personal best time and finish in 4th place overall, and was awarded a medal for her top 6 finish. Krezmien ran a hard race and finished in 20th place out of 37 competitors.
Both Sacilowski and Krezmien had a great experience at the National Championship meet and will be back running for the Griffins next track season.
