The first Sunday in August is the date that puts the small hamlet of Langford, NY on the map of places to be in Western New York. The Langford New Volunteer Fire Company’s annual fundraiser, appropriately known as the “Down Home Country Weekend,” is truly a great time. This unique event combines a Jamboree and Concert on Saturday with World Class Truck and Tractor Pulling action on Sunday. Langford’s population goes from hundreds to thousands for the weekend; this year’s event is Saturday Aug. 5 and Sunday, Aug. 6.
This Combination has been a great success for the hard working fire Company for over 25 years. It all started with the first Langford Tractor Pull in 1946. Making Langford’s Pull one of the longest running pulls in America! By providing top notch entertainment at affordable prices the events have grown to be an annual staple in many folks summer list of favorite things to do.
This year’s Concert and Jamboree kicks off at 4 p.m. on Saturday the 5th with the “Barnstorm Band” taking the Stage. A huge wooden dance floor gives fans a place to kick up their heels and dance. Taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. is Nashville Recording Star PHIL VASSAR, a gifted singer/songwriter who is a fantastic entertainer. This is a show you will not want to miss. Finishing off the evening will be the local award winning band “West of the Mark” that will pay until the 11 p.m. close.
Sunday’s Langford Tractor Pull kicks off at noon with 10 classes of action. For the first time ever the National Tractor Pullers Association is coming to town with their Grand National circuit. They will feature the best of Light Super Stock Tractors, Mini Modified and 4×4 Trucks from across America. These NTPA Classes will Run twice, opening the show and again at 6pm. The Empire State Pullers will take the track around 3 p.m. with their Super Farm, Modified Tractor and Heavy Super Stock Divisions. Finishing the great day of action around 9 p.m. will be the National Tour of Light Limited Super Stock Tractors brought to us by the WNY Pro Farm Series.
General Admission is $20 a day for ages 13 and up, while children 12 and under are admitted free. Parking is free and there are shuttle buses for those who care to use them to get to the show. This is a great way to spend the day and enjoy the great concessions and facility. Langford’s facility is lucky to have a grass covered hill on which you can use blankets or chairs and bleachers on the opposite side. Get there early to get those prime locations for viewing the action.
Now you can spend the day enjoying the ice cold beverages and great food offered at very reasonable prices. There will be ice cold beer, malted drinks, pop, milk and water to quench your thirst. Try the delicious BBQ chicken, Italian sausage, burgers, hot dogs, salt potatoes, sweet corn, French fries, pizza, popcorn, peanuts and ice .
For those who want to not worry about having too much fun, they offer camping sites on the grounds. For $60, you can spend the weekend and enjoy the whole Langford experience.
