SCENe Invites You to FREE Garden Walk July 8

Organized by the Springville Concord Elder Network (SCENe) Garden Club, more than two dozen gardens welcome the public on Saturday, July 8  from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Get a map and guide book that day at Fiddlers Green Park Gazebo, located at N. Buffalo and Franklin Streets in Springville.  The Garden Walk is held rain or shine.

Jennifer Mantione, Program Manager with SCENe explains, “Last year was our first ever Garden Walk for the Springville area.  Garden Club members thought it would be a fun event, and it was!  Most of the 28 gardens participating this year are not members of the garden club, but simply homeowners or businesses  willing to share their gardens with the public on this one day.  It’s not a judged event, and there’s no criteria to be part of the Garden Walk except that they want to!  Gardens this year really reflect that – some are very planned and manicured, and some run more toward the natural and wild side… some have lots of little artistic touches, and some include vegetables… some are small space and some ramble…. really something for everybody.  SCENe garden club members solicit sponsorship to underwrite the costs of putting on the walk, and we are very grateful to have major sponsorship from Waterman’s Greenhuse and Chevalier Outdoor Living this year.  The Garden Walk is a great way to get out and meet people who enjoy gardening, and perhaps pick up some great ideas or even helpful hints from local neighbors familiar with the same challenges you might be facing in your own gardens.”   Some photos from last year’s Garden Walk are available on SCENe’s website at www.communityalliance.org/current-programming

The SCENe Garden Club always accepts new members, meeting monthly with additional “road trips” to enjoy other garden sites.  They maintain several public spaces in the Springville area, and if you are interested in joining, please call club president Cindy Goode at 532-3692 or SCENe at 770-7277.  If you’d possibly like to offer your garden as part of a future Garden Walk, email sceldernetwork@gmail.com.
