There are lots of opportunities to show Dad a great time this Father’s Day weekend in Erie County! From the classic car fan, to the train hobbyist, to the history buff, every dad will enjoy one of these fun upcoming events and exhibits during his special weekend.
Bring the entire family to Darien Lake this weekend—it’s more than just amusement rides! On Saturday and Sunday, your family can enjoy the Father’s Day Car Show Weekend, which is a free event with each park admission or season pass. The event will include classic cars, hot-rods, custom cars, tuners, convertibles and more, plus craft beer tastings throughout the day. This year, the Arcade and Attica Railroad is celebrating its 100th birthday. Experience history in one of their steam locomotives this weekend during their Father’s Day Train Rides celebration—dads ride free! On Saturday and Sunday, June 17 and 18, trips depart at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. from the station at 278 Main Street in Arcade. Enjoy a 2 hour and 20-minute round trip excursion, which includes a half-way stop at Curriers Station for a self-guided tour of the museum. Children’s activities and concessions are available throughout the day. Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and $14 for children and can be purchased on-line at www.aarailroad.com.
The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens is pleased to present the Garden Railway Exhibit, presented by the Western New York Garden Railway Society now through July 9. This beautiful exhibit intertwines well-known buildings in Western New York with plants and flowers, creating a sort of scavenger hunt for the family! See if you can spot these miniature versions of Buffalo’s most popular destinations: the Buffalo Zoo, the Gold Dome Bank, the Liberty Building, Shea’s Performing Arts Center and more! Entrance to this exhibit is included with admission, which is $11 for adults, $10 for seniors, $9 for students, and $6 for children. Located at 2655 South Park Avenue in Buffalo, the Botanical Gardens is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, located at 180 Thompson Street in North Tonawanda, invites you to take part in their Father’s Day Celebration! Located in the original factory, the museum shows the history of one of the most well-known carousel manufacturers in the country, including a large carving shop, paint shop, upholstery shop and machine shop. The company shipped its first ride from the factory complex in 1916; now, more than 100 years later, families can still enjoy this interactive museum, which also includes two carousels that visitors can ride.
On Father’s Day, admission is free for dads and children can enjoy crafts and other activities at this one-of-a-kind museum. Admission is just $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3.50 for children ages 2-16 (children under age 2 are admitted free).
