Candidates for Board of Education
At the May 16, 2017 Annual School Budget Vote and Election of School Board members, there will be four (4) at-large Board of Education vacancies on the ballot. These vacancies are created by the expiration on June 30, 2017 of the terms of Chris Cerrone, Michael Connors and Jennifer Sullivan, and to fill a vacancy created by the expiration on May 16, 2017 of the term of Tammy Sherwood (who was appointed to fill a vacancy that resulted from a Board member’s resignation). The candidates who are running for a seat on the Board of Education are listed in the order in which they will appear on the ballot.
Jessica Curry Schuster
I was born and raised in Springville, and am a proud SGI class of 2005 graduate. As a student, I benefitted from SGI’s robust musical tradition, was active in school service organizations, and captained the Section VI champion Lady Griffins basketball team for four years. Post-SGI, I studied Political Science and Classics at the University of Buffalo, graduating summa cum laude in 2009. I worked for ten years in healthcare reimbursement, and last year, began a job as a research specialist with a local company, Adjusters International. My husband Bryan (an SGI alum from Collins) and I live in the village of Springville with our children: Henry (5, an SES kindergartner), Weston (3), and Sloane (1).
I believe in community service, and have coached t-ball for SYl, and basketball for the Springville Boys and Girls Club. Currently, I am communications director for The Summer Institute for Human Rights (a local non-profit), serve on the Springville Griffith Community Education Foundation board, and am an active member of the SES PTA.
As a member of the school board, my goals include:
• improving transparency and communication throughout the district,
• using my business experience to address budget concerns, and
• working for all students to receive a quality education.
I believe it is my turn to give back to the school system and community that have given me so much to be proud of.

I am a proud to have been a Springville resident for over twenty years and have lived in Western New York my entire life, growing up in the Southtowns, and attending West Seneca schools. I earned a degree in History from the University of Buffalo and obtained my Master’s Degree in Education from Canisius College. I have been a teacher in Hamburg for twenty years. My wife Miquela and I are the proud parents of two children, Haylee and Brayden, who attend Springville Middle.
I have volunteered as an SYI Board Member for the last seven years and have made significant contributions on the SYI Baseball Board for over nine years. I have devoted much time as a coach, trained umpires, maintained the website, and scheduled games.
I am proud of the leadership I have brought to the Springville-GI Board of Education over the last three years. We have moved our district in a positive direction, including hiring a new superintendent and putting in place an administrative team that has and will continue to improve the learning environment in our schools. I am seeking another term on the Springville-GI Board of Education so we can continue to move our district forward.
There is still more work to do as we enhance teaching and learning, along with ensuring every child gets a well-rounded educational opportunity.

My name is Pam Heary and I am a resident of the Town of Concord, where I live with my husband, Ed Heary – a graduate of Springville Griffith Institute. Prior to becoming part of the SGI community, I graduated from Lake Shore Central School District and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
I work as a Program Manager at PCB Piezotronics, a large sensor manufacturer, in Depew.
As Program Manager, I lead technology solution projects for aerospace and defense and energy customers, including large multi-million dollar programs, where I manage the expectations and objectives of multiple, diverse stakeholders.
I manage numerous project aspects, including large capital expenditures, in order to meet overall program deliverables. I leverage my skills in problem solving, leadership, teamwork, time and budget management, and communication to deliver results within budget and schedule.
I am running for School Board because I have the leadership skills necessary to be a successful member of the board, and I am committed to transparency, accountability, and increased communication to the community.
In addition to preparing for college, I’d like to see more emphasis on opportunities for students who are interested in careers immediately following their K-12 education. I believe there is a lot of value in preparing for skilled trade positions as well as preparing for higher education, but regardless of the careers students are interested in pursuing, we should be focused on providing the best possible education to all students.
Daniel J. Miess
My name is Daniel J Miess. I am a 1988 graduate of Springville Griffith Institute. After High School, I attended Brigham Young University in Utah and graduated in Manufacturing Engineering. I currently work in that field for a small company in Orchard Park, and I live with my family right here in the village of Springville. My wife Natosha and I have five children all who are or will be students of SGI. That said, we have a profound interest in the quality of the school district and the success of all its students, as do the other board members and candidates. I believe in a diverse and modern educational opportunity, not only to prepare students for success in their futures, but also to enrich their lives through their experiences now. This must include a relevant academic curriculum, as well as music, arts, sports, and social activities. Our district can be proud that it has provided these opportunities for generations. As a school board member, it will be my priority to ensure that these are maintained for all students.
As a lifelong resident and graduate of the District, I care deeply about SGI. I am excited to run for re-election to the Board. For the past three years I have served as Vice President. I am most proud of our decision to hire the current Superintendent. Our District is heading in a positive direction and I hope to continue to help lead SGI forward.
I grew up in Colden and attended Colden Elementary School; I graduated from SGI-HS in 1990 and then continued my education at Buffalo State College, where I graduated, cum laude, with a BA in Music. I live in Colden with my husband, Mike, and our four children. I am a stay at home mom and in between juggling my children’s busy sports/music/scholastic/extra-curricular activities, I get involved in supporting youth and our community in a number of ways.
When I graduated from SGI, our district was known for its great music, art, and enrichment programs at all levels. Our current and future students and the SGI community deserve as much. In fact, because of my personal experience with SGI’s quality of education and quality of life, my husband and I chose to raise our children here. By promoting and investing in standout academic and extra-curricular programs for students of all levels and interests, we will be a community where people want to live and raise their families.
