Competition Season: Area Adult Sports Leagues

With the changes in weather on the horizon, it’s perfectly natural to be chomping at the bit to enjoy your favorite outdoor sports and hobbies. Here’s a rundown on some of the best local and regional places to enjoy your favorite summer activities.

Soccer Leagues

Sahlen’s Sports Park, located at 7070 Seneca Street in Elma, offers several indoor men’s, women’s and co-ed soccer leagues at both competitive and recreational levels of play. Women’s leagues run on Mondays, men’s recreation and competitive leagues are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and co-ed recreational and competitive leagues are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Summer registration is currently underway on their website: www.sahlensportspark.com.

Indoor soccer leagues are also offered at Epic Sports Center, located at 2793 Wehrle Drive, Williamsville. The center offers co-ed leagues on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, men’s leagues on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, over 30 leagues on Thursdays and Sundays and women’s leagues on Saturdays. Sand Volleyball Leagues

Local options for beach volleyball are nearly endless. Some area favorites include:

Flattery’s Irish Pub, located at 1130 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca, hosts 6 on 6 co-ed leagues nightly from Monday through Friday, in both recreational and intermediate play levels. Spring sessions will begin mid-May, depending on the weather. Registration is open on their website: www.flatterys.com.

Kryszak Athletic Venues, located at 4090 Jeffery Boulevard, Blasdell, is set to begin hosting leagues for upper and lower intermediate sixes, and upper and lower intermediate fours starting the last week in May and running through the last week in August. Signups are underway at www.wnyvball.com.

Holidays Sports Bar and Volleyball, located at 935 Harlem Road, West Seneca, offers volleyball leagues every day except Sunday. Play levels range from coed low recreational, coed regular recreational, and coed intermediate. Golf Leagues

Is hitting the links more your style? The following local courses offer summer leagues and tournaments for you to enjoy throughout the season:

Concord Crest, located at 9255 Genesee Road, East Concord, has men’s leagues on Mondays and Thursdays, ladies leagues on Mondays and Tuesdays, and a mixed and junior league on Wednesdays. For more information on league times and openings, visit the website: www.concordcrest.com.

Springville Country Club, located at has a Thursday men’s nite and Wednesday ladies league. Men’s Nite is a scheduled 10 week Thursday afternoon and evening men’s league, open to all members. Ladies league runs for 6 weeks with an early 18-hole division and a late 9-hole division. Sign-ups are currently underway on the country club website: www.springvillecc.com.

Holiday Valley, located at 6557 Holiday Valley Road in Ellicottville, runs a men’s league on Tuesday nights, that is a two-man (9 holes) best ball played, and has an early division with tee times between 3-4:30 p.m., and a late division with tee offs between 4:30-6 p.m. The course also has a beginner ladies instruction program every Wednesday.

Field Hockey

Adult, 8 on 8 field hockey is offered at Sahlen’s Sports Park, located at 7070 Seneca Street in Elma. The session begins May 23. Athletes play two 25 minute halves. Mouth guards, goggles and shin guards are required.

Epic Sports Center, located at 2793 Wehrle Drive, Williamsville offers women’s adult league field hockey on Monday nights. The spring league begins May 15. Visit the Epic Center website to download the registration form: www.epic-center.com.

Kickball

For those who want to venture to the city, summer kickball leagues begin mid-May with games held Monday through Thursday in south Buffalo, Outer Harbor, and Delaware park. Basketball

Looking to shoot some hoops?

Boys and Girls Club of East Aurora, located at 24 Paine Street, East Aurora, is offering a men’s league is on Mondays and Wednesdays. Players must be 16 and older, and game times range from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. To register a team, visit the East Aurora Parks and Recreation website: www.aurorany.myrec.com.

Softball

For those looking to swing a bat, here are a few regional spots with summer softball leagues.

The Town of West Seneca holds Monday coed, Wednesday men’s figure eight, and Friday men’s slow pitch leagues throughout the summer. All leagues are wood bat only, and begin the first week in June. For questions or more information, visit the Town of West Seneca website: www.westseneca.net.

The Twin Tiers Adult Softball Players and Enthusiasts Group will host a men’s summer softball league beginning Friday, May 12. Games will be played at Marcus and Forness Parks. For more information, visit their facebook group: @Oleansoftball.
