U14 Athletes from across the East Coast gathered at Sunday River Ski Resort in Sunday River, ME for U14 Eastern Championships. This was a three-day series consisting of Super-G, Giant Slalom and Slalom.
Super-G: Hannah Goetz of Kissing Bridge took 28th place. For the men, Joshua Jusiak of Buffalo Ski Club finished 65th.
Giant Slalom: Goetz improved upon her Super-G result and finished 16th, the result that got her into the Can-Am Series. Alex Aubrecht (BSC) finished 57th and Joshua Jusiak placed 57th. Slalom: Goetz unfortunately crashed in the Slalom, but Aubrecht had a great showing, placing 20th, and Jusiak took 35th.
U21/U19 athletes traveled to Gore Mountain in North Creek, NY for their U19 Eastern Championships. This series was set up the same as the U14 series, featuring a Super-G, Giant Slalom and Slalom.
Super-G: Buffalo Ski Club’s Margaret Munschauer finished 12th. On the men’s side, James Rauch (BSC) took 20th.
Giant Slalom: Munschauer found herself in the top spot taking gold. Rauch improved, finishing 17th.
Slalom: Munschauer crashed in this event, but Rauch had his best result taking 13th.
Daniel Edick of Buffalo Ski Club was the only athlete to move on to the Ronnie Berlack U16 Eastern Championship Grand Priz sponsored by Nordica. In the Giant Slalom, Edick finished 56th, Slalom #1 he did not finish and Slalom #2 he was disqualified for straddling a gate.
Buffalo Ski Club’s Christian Meyer moved onto U16 Eastern Finals held at Okemo Mountian in Ludlow, VT. Super-G Meyer finished 20th, Giant Slalom he took 19th and slalom he placed 32nd.
Athletes from across seven states gathered for the annual Francis Piche Invitational Championship, a Giant Slalom race, at Gunstock Mountain in Gilford, New Hampshire. Only the best U12 athletes attend this race and it is the farthest an athlete can go on the East Coast. Buffalo Ski Club’s Zoe Hallett was the only U12 athlete to make it from either Kissing Bridge or Buffalo Ski Club but she unfortunately crashed her first run of the Giant Slalom. U14 Athletes that attended were Jenna Block and Wilson Siudzinski, both of Kissing Bridge. Block finished 46th and Siudzinski took 60th.
Aside from Goetz, this closes another Junior Alpine Race Season for Kissing Bridge and Buffalo Ski Club. All athletes should be proud of their accomplishments as we know their community is!
