If you grew up in Springville or have kids that live in the area, chances are Springville Youth Inc. (SYI) has been a part of your life. From sports to the arts, SYI offers numerous programs for students of all ages.
A not-for-profit organization founded in 1940, SYI works very closely with local government entities and the SGI school district. Funding is provided in equal part by the Town of Concord and Village of Springville, and by program participant fees. SYI is directed by a board that meets monthly; meetings are open to the public and members of the community are encouraged to contribute to the ongoing success of the organization.
SYI offers programming year-round. This time of year, SYI runs an indoor soccer league for students in grades 3-6 and ski clubs at both Kissing Bridge and Holiday Valley. They also sponsor a U14 soccer team that plays at Sahlens every week.
SYI’s Winter Family Swim begins March 2. For only $1 per swimmer, head to the high school pool from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on March 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28 and 30, and April 4, 6, 18, 20, 25 and 27
In addition, registration is now open for SYI’s Indoor Basketball Program, for students in grades 2-5, which begins on Saturday, March 4. Camp will run for the following six Saturdays (March 4, 11, 18, and 25, and April 1 and 8) at the Middle School from 10 a.m. to noon. Coaches in the program will include just about every basketball coach at SGI. The first hour of the camp to be centered around skill development and the second hour will give the kids a chance to play games. Players within the SGI program will help with officiating and coaching. Contact Bob Gainey at email@example.com if you have any questions.
Spring is a busy time for SYI and offers numerous opportunities to keep the kids active. Choose from soccer, softball, baseball and tee ball. Registration is currently open online at www.syionline.org. Register by March 12 for softball/baseball/tee ball and by March 31 for soccer to avoid late fees.
In addition, in-person signups are scheduled for Saturday, March 4 at the Town Hall from 9 a.m. to noon.
