Local Ski Racing: Goetz Takes Gold!

Hannah Goetz of Kissing Bridge swept the second weekend of the Excelsior Cup Series with two gold medal finishes securing her position in U14 State Championships. U14 athletes traveled to Holiday Valley for a Giant Slalom and HoliMont for a Slalom. One hundred and thirty-seven athletes competed in these races from across Western New York and Central New York.

Buffalo Ski Clubs Julia Patterson finished in 4th place with teammate Kiera Kavcic right on her heels in 5th. Abigal Fischer (KB) placed 6th, Sydney Minier (KB) 8th and Katriana Kivari (KB) 9th. This was one of these ladies’ best races so far taking six of the top 10 spots. Grace Rauch of Buffalo Ski Club finished in 18th, Elizabeth Graney (KB) 26th, Jenna Block (KB) 30th, Syvonne Forgette (BSC) 53rd and Ingrid Siudzinski (KB) placed 56th.

For the men, Buffalo Ski Club’s Alex Aubrecht had his best result of the season, landing himself on the podium in 3rd. Montgomery Nicholl (BSC) finished in 20th, Quinn Langdon (BSC) 22nd, Wilson Siudzinski (KB) 29th, Hayden Wible (KB) 47th and Justin Jusiak (BSC) took 52nd.

For the Slalom at HoliMont, Goetz finished in 1st again, with Buffalo Ski Club’s Julia Patterson walking away with the silver medal. Kiera Kavcic (BSC) took 5th, Abigail Fischer (KB) 6th, Madisyn DeLozier (BSC) 8th and Sydney Minier (KB) 10th. Once again, the ladies took six of the top 10 places. Grace Rauch of Buffalo Ski Club had another successful race finishing in 14th, Elizabeth Graney (KB) 23rd, Ingrid Siudzinski (KB) 49th and Syvonne Forgette (BSC) placed 50th.

Buffalo Ski Club’s Joshua Jusiak narrowly missed the podium finishing in 4th with teammate Alex Aubrecht in 6th. Quinn Langdon (BSC) placed 17th, Wilson Siudzinski (KB) 23rd, Montgomery Nicholl (BSC) 25th, Hayden WIble (KB) 32nd and Justin Jusiak (BSC) finished 46th.

For U21/U19/U16 athletes, they competed in the final Empire Cup Series of the season. Some athletes elected to travel out to the eastern part of New York, competing in the Super-G at Gore Mountain, while others raced in the normal Bristol Mountain Super-G. James Rauch of Buffalo Ski Club finished in 19th amid very tough competition and Joshua Allegra of Kissing Bridge placed 57th.

Buffalo Ski Club’s Margaret Munschauer cracked the top ten finishing 9th place in a notoriously Adirondack dominated event. Lauren Meyer (BSC) also had a stellar performance, finishing 23rd and Page Hazen (KB) took 29th.

In the next Super-G at Gore Mountain, Munschauer improved on her previous result, finishing 4th and Page Hazen finished 30th. For the men, James Rauch (BSC) finished 30th with Joshua Allegra (KB) in 56th.

Over at Bristol Mountain, in the first Super-G of the weekend Grace Graney (KB) finished with a 4th place. Kattie Schlemmer (KB) took 18th, Olivia Shortt (KB) 23rd, Julia Farrell (KB) 26th and Madison Dziulko (BSC) finished 28th. On the men’s side, Buffalo Ski Club’s Daniel Edick finished in 6th place, Ethan Hallett (BSC) 18th, Liam Fischer (KB) 21st, Bryce Shively (KB) 27th and Aristotle Ninos (KB) 31st.

In the second Super-G, Grace Graney of Kissing Bridge had another top ten finish with a 6th place. Katie Schlemmer (KB) finished in 18th and Olivia Shortt (KB) took 26th. Buffalo Ski Club’s Christian Meyer finished in 5th place and teammate Ethan Hallett came in 21st.

The following athletes will move on to Empire State Games being held at Lake Placid at Whiteface Feb. 3-5t: Women— Margaret Munschauer, Lauren Meyer, Katie Schlemmer, Page Hazen and Olivia Shortt. Men—James Rauch, Brice Shively, Jack Schleyer, Daniel Edick, Christian Meyer and Ethan Hallett.

Congrats to all of these athletes as they head to the Adirondacks for the annual Empire State Games. U14 athletes join the U12/U10/U8 for a race at Kissing Bridge on Feb. 4 for the annual Dual Slalom to be held on Holi for the first time ever!
