Varsity Girls Basketball, coach Bob Gainey

The varsity girls basketball team traveled to East Aurora Tuesday night and were defeated by a score of 68-23. The girls had a difficult time matching up with the size of the Blue Devils, as East Aurora scored the majority of their points in the paint. In the loss, Ivette Lewandowski scored a team high 12 points to help lead the Lady Griffs. Despite being undersized, Lexi Sopko worked extremely hard on both ends of the floor; she showed tremendous effort on the evening. The girls will look to bounce back when they host Mt. Mercy Academy on Saturday, Dec. 17 for the “Salute to Service” event.

JV/Varsity Wrestling, coach Mark Vogel

The Springville Griffs had a strong showing at their first tournament of the year on Saturday at Maple Grove.  Mikey Evans and Matt Evans both won the tournament with records of 5 and 0.  Devin Bruno, Benn Smith, Cam Weeks, and Jake Bystryk all took 3rd place with records of 4 and 1.  Jared Hecht and Shilo Rogers both placed 4th in their first Varsity tournament.  Matt Evans led the Griffs with 4 pins and 1 technical fall.  Nate Cottom earned 2 pins before leaving the tournament with a knee injury.  The Griffs look to build on that success Wednesday night in their first match of the season.  Come support the team Wednesday at the MS at 6pm as they take on the Alden bulldogs and then join us Saturday in the HS gym for our 3rd annual Springville duals tournament.
