Getting ready for the holidays has never been easier, and you can take a short stroll down Main Street later this month and get everything you need. At the annual A Very Merry Main Street, Nov. 25 and 26, local stores and businesses will open their doors and offer customers a great shopping experience, Springville style.

A Very Merry Main Street began four years ago, when Kim Carrow, owner of My Best Friend’s Closet and Mary James, owner of Fresh (formerly Rhapsody’s), had the idea and approached other businesses with it. Since then, it has become a combined effort, with everyone chipping in to organize it each year. “It incorporates Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, which is small business owners’ holiday,” Carrow explained.

The two-day event includes businesses between the lights at Buffalo and Franklin Streets on Main Street. “We wanted it to be walkable,” Carrow said.

In addition, other local businesses, who don’t have their own storefront, will be set up inside the businesses that do.

The businesses pool their money and offer cash prizes. Customers pick up a postcard entry at participating businesses. Postcards have a checklist of businesses on it, and customers must have each business sign off on their card. Once complete, they drop it off at one of the businesses for a chance to win three cash prizes (one for $300, two for $100 each.)

Carrow believes this event has been so successful in the past because people are getting away from the big box stores and realize the positive impact of supporting local merchants.  “People are more aware of shopping local— they love the feeling of it and of running into people they know,” Carrow said.

A Very Merry Main Street runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 25, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 26. Entry forms must be turned in by 4 p.m. on Saturday to be included in the drawing.
